History...
Marie Mills Center was started in 1969 in a facility at
the Port of Tillamook Bay by parents of developmentally disabled
individuals and others who wanted to create meaningful opportunities
for developmentally disabled adults in Tillamook County.
Through this "grass roots" effort, Marie
Mills Center was among the first of its kind in Oregon. Marie Mills
Center began by providing only vocational services, but by 1978 the
Center began to also provide residential services to individuals with
developmental disabilities.

Marie Mills Center currently serves 63 individuals
within its vocational program in which the Center provides support and
training to individuals to assist them vocationally and with their
jobs. In the "old days" of vocational services,
developmentally disabled individuals were sent to a centralized and
isolated location, a sheltered workshop.
Marie Mills Center is proud that of the 63 individuals
it currently serves in its vocational program, 40 have vocational
opportunities that are now integrated within our community at local
businesses instead of a sheltered workshop.

Marie Mills Center's residential program currently
serves 31 individuals with developmental disabilities. 24 hour
supervised residential services occur through a 10 bed group home (the
Madrona House) and a 5 bed group home (the Nestucca House). In
addition to 24-hour supervised residential services, Marie Mills
Center offers a Semi-Independent Living Program serving 9 individuals
who are able to successfully live on their own with only a minimal
amount of support and a supported living program serving 7
individuals.
